The first weeks of the war in Ukraine: activities of the Peace and Kindness foundation
Since the first days of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Peace and Kindness Foundation has been at the forefront of humanitarian relief efforts, dedicated to providing life-saving aid to those most affected by the conflict. Understanding the urgency of the situation, the Foundation immediately mobilized its resources to assist individuals and families fleeing war zones, focusing particularly on those evacuating from Ukraine’s most dangerous regions.
At the Kyiv Central Railway Station, our volunteers quickly established a fully operational humanitarian headquarters. Here, displaced people could access critical services, including first aid, psychological support, and vital information about evacuation procedures. The headquarters also provided essential supplies, such as food, hygiene products, and medical assistance, ensuring that those waiting for evacuation trains—many of whom spent hours or even days at the station—received the care they desperately needed. Hot meals, tea, and coffee were offered free of charge, fostering a sense of community and solidarity during these dire circumstances. On average, we, along with our partners, provided food to approximately 2,000 people each day at this single headquarters, underscoring the scale of the humanitarian need.
On March 20, 2022, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, personally visited the humanitarian headquarters at Kyiv Central Railway Station, acknowledging the pivotal role the Peace and Kindness Foundation played in supporting the evacuation efforts. This high-level visit not only underscored the significance of our work but also strengthened our partnership with national institutions, including Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine’s national railway company. During the Prime Minister’s visit, several Ukrzaliznytsia employees were honored for their bravery and commitment to the evacuation efforts.
We invite you to watch a video report detailing our volunteers’ tireless work during this critical period, as well as the Prime Minister’s visit and the official recognition of Ukrzaliznytsia employees. This video is a testament to the courage, compassion, and resilience that defines the mission of the Peace and Kindness Foundation as we continue to provide much-needed aid to those affected by the ongoing conflict.
